Fe-n/V-m superlattices with n = 2,4 and m = 2,4,5 are studied by vibrating
sample magnetometry and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism measurements. The
combination of both techniques allows us to determine absolutely the induc
ed V magnetic moment per atom. The samples with the thinnest V or Fe layers
, respectively, reveal the largest induced moment of m(V) = 1.1 mu (B)/atom
(Fe-4/V-2) and the strongest reduction of the Fe moment down to m(Fe) = 1.
34 mu (B)/atom (Fe-2/V-5). In addition, we probe the orbital magnetism of F
e and discuss it with respect to previous results by ferromagnetic resonanc
e and first principles calculations.
