A 65 year old male patient was diagnosed with hereditary hemorrhagic t
elangiectasia at 30. During recent years he has suffered frequent, alm
ost daily, nose bleeds causing anemia and making several blood transfu
sions necessary. In the past 2-3 years, the patient has developed multi
ple squamous cell carcinomas on the face. These un-unsually large tumo
urs were treated by micrographic surgery using paraffin sections and t
he defects closed with a variety of flaps and grafts. Several solar ke
ratoses were also removed. If hemostasis parameters are normal, skin s
urgery can be performed without hestitation in hereditary hemorrhagic
telangiectasia.
