Abstract
By combining high resolution transmission electron microscopy images with e nergy calculations of relaxed structures described using semi-empirical pot entials, we show that the atomic structure of the Sigma = 33{144}< 011 > (t heta = 20.05 degrees) tilt grain boundary in germanium contains a glide mir ror symmetry and not a mirror plane symmetry as was proposed earlier in lit erature.
