In this paper, we carry out a regional study aimed at measuring the effects
of different regions on the welfare and income of Spanish families. This h
as, in turn, allowed us to calculate the inequality in welfare and income t
hat exists between these households. The results confirm the relation betwe
en welfare and monetary income for those Spanish households in which both s
pouses work. Furthermore, we find that the welfare level in the east and Ma
drid regions is higher than elsewhere, with the lowest welfare level being
found in the south. The comparison between regions allows us to rank them f
rom the lowest to the highest welfare levels, with this ranking adopting th
e order north, centre, east, south and Madrid.
