Mead, known as the honey drink of the immortals and man's oldest liquor, wa
s widely brewed and drank in Europe in earlier times, with England being a
leader in this production. This is not surprising, as the old name for Engl
and was the "Isle of Honey," coined from the abundance of bees, both domest
icated and wild, that lived on the vast amount of wild flowers and herbage
that flourished in a largely uncultivated land and produced an abundance of
honey.
