In a search for promising antifungal compounds, nine new 3,3'-ethylenebis(5
-alkyl-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thiones) were synthesized by the reaction of eth
ylene diamine, carbon disulfide, formaldehyde, and the appropriate alkyl am
ine. The title compounds were tested for their antifungal activity in vitro
against pathogenic (Trichophyton rubrum and Candida albicans), phytopathog
enic (Penicillum expansum, Trichoderma hazianum, and Fasarium oxysporum), a
nd aflatoxin producing (Aspergillus flavus) fungi. These compounds exhibite
d varied inhibitory effects on growth or sporulation of some tested fungal
species.
