Incorporating social work values an d practice theory, research findings, and principles of communication theory, the model defines a specific process for intervention with and by African Americans. The process is twofold First, the practitioner uses the components of the model to guide his own individualized study and growth in multicultural knowledge. Second the practitioner uses t he model to intervene actively or supervise intervention in a multicul tural context. The model's eight components are presented followed by case vignettes which vividly describe how the model is applied in a nu mber of practice settings.
