The dynamic behavior of a simple elastic tensegrity structure is examined,
in order to validate observations that the natural damping of the elastic e
lements in such a structure is poorly mobilized, due to the natural flexibi
lity of the equilibrium position of the structure. It is confirmed, analyti
cally and numerically, that the energy decay of such a system is slower tha
n that of a linearly-damped system. (C) 2001 Editions scientifiques et medi
