In part 1 of this review, published last month, literature exploring t
he psychological bereavement theories and the health consequences of b
ereavement are summarized. The second part builds on this to outline t
he debate surrounding the characteristics of abnormal bereavement, whi
le also focusing on risk factors for this morbidity. This leads on to
a summary of the literature on bereavement care, particularly from a g
eneral practice point of view. Finally, areas for further research are
highlighted.
