Mm. Marrocco-trischitta et al., Management of synchronous abdominal aortic aneurysm and renal carcinoma associated with duplication of the inferior vena cava, J CARD SURG, 42(5), 2001, pp. 683-685
The management of concomitant abdominal aortic aneurysm and intra-abdominal
malignancies is still disputed; whether to treat the lesions simultaneousl
y or as staged procedures being the main controversy. Abdominal aortic aneu
rysm associated with renal carcinoma is rare and combined aneurysm repair a
nd nephrectomy appears to be the treatment of choice in selected patients.
We report a case where the surgical management of simultaneously occurring
abdominal aortic aneurysm and renal carcinoma was complicated by the presen
ce of a duplicated inferior vena cava. The rationale for the treatment of t
his patient and the technical difficulties of the surgical procedure are di
scussed and a review of the literature to date is reported.
