Abstract
We develop a picture of energy landscapes which for large enough systems co nsists of continuous (unsegmented) intertwining equipotential ribbons. We d iscuss the significance of this construct, which differs from conventional topographical views of energy landscapes. Although analyses based upon ener gy landscapes are unlikely in and of themselves to lead to quantitative the ories, they may lead to useful insights.
