Abstract
Yb-170 Mossbauer spectroscopy has been used to confirm the valence of Yb in the new binary quasi-crystalline YbCd5,7 alloy. Comparison with other phas es in the Yb-Cd phase diagram shows that the local environments of the Yb a toms are very similar.
