A method is proposed for the determination of Teicoplanin by different
ial pulse polarography (DPP). The electroactive product was obtained b
y nitration with potassium nitrate in sulphuric medium. It showed a re
duction peak at -0.1 volts, which may be used for analytical purposes.
The optimum conditions for the polarographic signal were determined a
nd a study was made of the different parameters affecting the electroc
hemical process. A polarographic procedure is proposed for the determi
nation of Teicoplanin in a concentration range between 5.0x10(-6) M an
d 1.4x10(-4) M. The detection limit is about 7.1x10(-7) M and the rela
tive standard deviation is 3.8%. The method was applied to the determi
nation of Teicoplanin in pharmaceutical formulations.
