Complexation of dialkylaminomethylated calix[4]resorcinarenes (H8X) with bi
s-acetylacetonates and salicylaldiminates of Cu(II) was studied by UV-VIS a
nd EPR spectroscopy methods, The complexation was found to proceed via tern
ary complex formation and results in the octahedral or square-pyramidal str
ucture with NR2 group coordination in equatorial or axial positions of Cu(I
I) coordination sphere. The complexation of salicylaldiminates with N-Ar su
bstituent is accompanied by the evaluation of salicylaldimines from the Cu(
II) coordination sphere. This regularity is proposed to be determined by th
e structure of the initial Cu(II) complex, being square planar for Cu(II) b
is-acetylacetonate and salicylaldiminates with N-Alkyl substituent and tetr
ahedrally distorted for salicylaldiminates with N-Ar substituent. (C) 2001
