Echocardiographical parameters and ECG criteria of left ventricular an
d left atrial hypertrophy were compared in patients with mild and mode
rate arterial hypertension during 8 months of controlled mono-and comb
ination therapy using representatives of 4 main groups of antihyperten
sive drugs (captopril, nifedipine, hydrochlorothiazide, propranolol) a
nd subsequent 12 months of uncontrolled (by the authors of the study)
treatment implemented by local medical service. It was shown that of e
lectrocardiographical signs of left ventricular hypertrophy only Corne
ll voltage criterion correlated significantly positively with echocard
iographical data at initial investigation and with their dynamics duri
ng treatment, Noninvasive methods of investigation echocardiography an
d electrocardiography complemented each other and augmented efficacy o
f diagnosis of the ''hypertensive heart''.
