The annihilation fractions of the (p) over barp annihilation at rest into p
i pi, pi eta, eta eta, phi pi (0), K(K) over bar and eta (1440)pi pi at dif
ferent target densities are reviewed in order to determine their branching
ratios from S and P antiprotonic atom sublevels and the sublevel population
fractions. Particular emphasis is given to the incompatibility of some ann
ihilation fraction measurements and to the expected dependence of the (p) o
ver barp atom sublevel population fractions on the target density. The popu
lation fraction of the P-3(0) sublevel in liquid target turns out to be hig
her than its statistical weight. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights
