A two-mode solid-state laser subjected to a delayed optical feedback is stu
died. Simultaneous random switchings between stable and chaotic antiphase s
piking oscillations featuring the establishment of causal (drive response)
relationships among modes have been demonstrated by a proposed information
circulation analysis of an experimental time series. The observed phenomeno
n has been well reproduced by numerical simulations of two-mode laser equat
ions with uncorrelated modal phase fluctuations.
