Abstract
It is proved that an atom is periodically kicked under the effect of a stro ng laser field, obtaining in this way a connection with quantum chaos. Appl icability hints of the theory to Rydberg atoms in a strong microwave field are also given. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
