Abstract
The synthesis of new stabilizer compounds (a combination of 2,2,6,6-tetrame thylpiperidine and 2-hydroxyphenylbenzotriazole in one molecule) is reporte d. Four polymerizable combined stabilizers as well as two unsaturated triaz inyl-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidines and two unsaturated triazinyl-2-hydroxy phenylbenzotriazoles as individual stabilizers were synthesized. Their copo lymers and the ter-copolymers of the individual stabilizers with methyl met hacrylate were obtained. Chemical bonding of the stabilizers in the polymer was confirmed spectrophoto metrically. The influence of these additives on the photostability of the copolymers was studied. The participation of the combined stabilizers in the polymerization did not significantly affect th e molecular weight or polydispersity of the copolymers. A significant stabi lizing effect against photodegradation was found. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
