Thin films of PbTiO3 (PT) were hetero-epitaxially grown on the sapphire, Sr
TiO3, and MgO substrates by the magnetron sputtering. The structural proper
ties and ferroelectric properties were evaluated. The heteroepitaxial thin
films show strained and/or unstrained structure. These structural propertie
s affected the ferroelectric properties of the sputterd thin films. The fer
roelectric behaviour of the unstrained epitaxial PT thin films is similar t
o that of bulk ceramics. Strained PT thin films of single domain/single cry
stal structure showed a diffused temperature anomaly at the tetra-cubic tra
nsition.
