High-resolution imaging systems for part inspection are of great demand in
many industries. In some applications the part to be tested does not lend i
tself to conventional imaging methods such as radiography or ultrasound tec
hniques. Here we present a novel imaging method that displays the dynamic p
roperties of the object. This method is based on conversion of ultrasound e
nergy to low frequency elastic waves in the object. Such waves carry import
ant information about the object structure and integrity. This method can b
e used to produce "see-through" images of different materials such as compo
sites and metals.
