Cylindrical Rayleigh waves, which are elastic surface waves occurring at th
e interface between a cylinder and vacuum. are investigated by User Ultraso
nics, First, the dispersive curves are obtained theoretically for cylindric
al Rayleigh waves generated by line source. These dispersive curves show th
at the velocities of propagation of these waves depend on the radii of cyli
nders and the frequencies of the exciting source. Then, the normal displace
ment of these waves are measured experimentally by a Laser-Ultrasonic syste
m. The group-velocity dispersive curves are obtained from the experimental
data by the pseudo-Wigner-Ville distribution (PWVD), one of the time freque
ncy analysis methods. Good agreement is found between the theoretical and e
xperimental dispersive curves.
