This paper studied the application of finite element method (FEM) in analyz
ing the propagation of elastic wave's in cylinders. The spatial and tempora
l steps of discretization of the finite elemental computation are discussed
. The displacement fields excited by a pulsed tine-source with 5 MHz center
frequency in cylinders are computed and displayed by color images. The wav
e forms of receiving points in the surface of the cylinders, identified as
A-scan results, are also shown. The comparison between the finite elemental
and experimental results show that FEM is a good way for the simulation of
the wave propagation in cylinders.
