Abstract
A review of the present-day state of satellites passive methods of atmosphe re remote sensing is made. Four methods are considered: the transparency me thod, the method of reflected and scattered solar radiation, the thermal ra diation and remote refractometry method. The physical and mathematical basi s for each of these techniques is discussed briefly as well as their strong and weak points.
