A lead groin shield for the patient may be used during cardiac catheterizat
ion or electrophysiologic procedures in an attempt to minimize radiation do
se in the lower abdominal and groin regions. Although the dose of radiation
received by unshielded patients is low using current generation fluoroscop
y devices, shielding further decreased the dose without increasing radiatio
n in adjacent measured regions.
