Nj. Vietri et al., Esophageal ulceration due to cytomegalovirus infection in a patient with acute retroviral syndrome, CLIN INF D, 34(1), 2002, pp. E14-E15
Opportunistic infections during primary infection with human immunodeficien
cy virus type 1 have occasionally been reported in the medical literature,
and those caused by cytomegalovirus have tended to be severe and prolonged.
We describe a 40-year-old man who had acute retroviral syndrome complicate
d by a severe cytomegalovirus-induced esophageal ulceration, which was succ
essfully treated with total parenteral nutrition and ganciclovir in additio
n to highly active antiretroviral therapy.
