The study of Devonian chonetoidean brachiopods from the Taoudeni and South
Hoggar basins, in Mali and Niger, South of the Reguibat-Hoggar shield, allo
ws the description of new eodevonariid species: Lomaella amziensis nov. sp.
(Tassilis Oua-n-Ahaggar, south Hoggar Basin), Eodevonaria taoudeniensis no
v. sp. and Loreleiella sp. (Taoudeni Basin). The occurrence of the genus Lo
maella in NW Africa, only known hitherto from South America, allows analysi
ng the hypothetical connecting migratory routes between both regions situat
ed on the western part of the Gondwana palaeocontinent during the late Emsi
an. The phylogenetic relationships of Lomaella and Eodevonaria with the SW
European genera Davoustia-Renaudia-Loreleiella are discussed. (C) 2001 Edit
