Abstract
The Boundary Layer Transformation Model (BLTM) is tested against data on the observed depth of the thermal internal boundary layer (TIBL). T he model is based on a semi-empirical theory of the atmospheric bounda ry layer and takes into account the influence of the sea-land temperat ure difference and other meteorological conditions during the TIBL dev elopment. The measurements were carried out during ATHens Internal Bou ndary Layer EXperiment (ATHIBLEX) in 1989 and 1990. It is found that t he BLTM results are in good qualitative agreement with the observed TI BL depths. The reason for the discrepancies between the observed and c omputed depths is explained by the different definitions of the TIBL a dopted.
