Abstract
Severe hypomagnesemia, hypocalcemia, and inappropriately low parathyroid ho rmone concentrations may develop in dogs with protein-losing enteropathy, Supplementation with magnesium can normalize serum magnesium and parathyroi d hormone concentrations, improve ionized calcium concentration, and allevi ate clinical signs of paresis, Magnesium concentration should be monitored in all dogs with gastrointestin al tract disease, especially those with protein-losing enteropathy, anorexi a, and weakness.
