Pas proteins are membrane-bound GTP-binding proteins that play a criti
cal role in the control of cell growth. Through a large number of gene
tic and biochemical studies it is becoming increasingly evident that t
he biological activity of Pas proteins is mediated by multiple signali
ng pathways. This review provides an account of the target proteins th
at interact with Pas and the functional consequences of these interact
ions. The relative contribution of the different Pas effector pathways
to the mitogenic and oncogenic effects of Pas are discussed.
