Geological age determination and isotope geochemistry

The activity of George Hevesy paved the way for a number of disciplines, In the field of earth sciences he contributed to the establishment of Nd isot ope geochemistry and K-Ar geochronology. In Hungary there is a K-Ar laborat ory where mostly the geochronology of the Carpatho-Balkan region is studied . It has been shown that commercially available noble gas mass spectrometer s are technically obliviated: (i) their vacuum is at least one order of mag nitude worse than it would be technically possible and (ii) they do not use position sensitive detectors for simultaneous measurement of isotopes.
