The reaction of [SnPh3(eta (1)-2-PyS)] (1) with both [cis-Pt(PPh3)(2)Cl-2]
and [Pt(PPh3)(2)(C2H4)] yielded the same platinum derivative, [trans-Pt(PPh
3)(2)(eta (1)-2-PyS)(2)] (2). The tin-containing products were identified a
s SnPh3Cl and Sn2Ph6 for the first and second reactions, respectively. The
same experiment with [cis-Ni(PPh3)(2)Cl-2] led to the formation of an insol
uble product Ni(2-PyS)(2) and of [SnPh3(OPPh3)Cl] (3). Compounds (1), (2) a
nd (3) were studied by i.r., NMR spectroscopies and their X-ray structures
were revised.
