Abstract
Hastelloy-XR alloy was coated with glasses to improve the corrosion resista nce in boiling sulfuric acid for application in thermochemical hydrogen pro duction process. Pre-oxidation of Hastelloy-XR alloy enabled one to produce well-adhered glass coating. The glass composition with the highest corrosi on resistance was 48SiO(2)-8B(2)O(3)-6Al(2)O(3)-11CaO-25BaO-2ZnO. The glass -coated Hastelloy-XR alloy showed almost no mass change in boiling sulfuric acid of 40 to 80% aqueous solution at 408 to 503 K after 43 ks.
