Recent studies have reported only Lentinula boryana and L. guarapiensis fro
m the American continent, the latter known only from its type specimen. We
report at least three sextant species. Two widely distributed species, L. b
oryana and L. raphanica comb. nov., are discussed in this paper, and a new
species is being described elsewhere. The geographic ranges of both species
apparently overlap throughout tropical and subtropical America except for
the Gulf Coast region of the United States, from which only L. raphanica ca
n be reported. Lentinula boryana and L. raphanica differ in basidiome micro
morphology, especially cheilocystidial form, spore dimensions, sexual compa
tibility profiles, and ITS sequences.
