D. Javorsek et al., New experimental limits on strongly interacting massive particles at the TeV scale - art. no. 231804, PHYS REV L, 8723(23), 2001, pp. 1804
We have carried out a search for strongly interacting massive particles (SI
MPs) bound to Au and Fe nuclei, which could manifest themselves as anomalou
sly heavy isotopes of these elements. Our samples included gold from the NA
SA Long Duration Exposure Facility satellite, RHIC at Brookhaven National L
aboratory, and from various geological sources. We find no evidence for SIM
Ps in any of our samples, and our results set stringent limits (as low as s
imilar to 10(-12)) on the abundances of anomalous Au or Fe isotopes with ma
sses up to 1.67 and 0.65 TeV/c(2), respectively.
