The ferrobielastic properties (ferroic properties of the second order) earl
ier theoretically predicted for lead germanate uniaxial ferroelectric cryst
als are justified experimentally. It is demonstrated that single-domain sam
ples are formed upon cooling to temperatures below the Curie point under un
iaxial mechanical stresses corresponding to a combination of mechanical str
esses sigma (11)sigma (13) or sigma (22)sigma (23). The macroscopic mechani
