Abstract
This paper reports on a Raman study of the cubic-to-monoclinic phase transi tion in (NH4)(3)ScF6 cryolite. We observed sharp anomalies in the frequenci es and half-widths of the Raman lines corresponding to internal vibrations of the ScF63+ ions and to lattice vibrations; no soft lattice mode condensa tion was revealed. It is concluded that the phase transition studied is rel ated primarily to the orientational ordering of these ions. (C) 2001 MAIK " Nauka/ Interperiodica".
