In acute ischemic stroke, reocclusion after an initially successful thrombo
lysis treatment can occur and is associated with increased morbidity and mo
rtality. The authors present the successful use of abciximab, a platelet gl
ycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor inhibitor, in a patient with a thrombotic occl
usion of the proximal middle cerebral artery, which was refractory to combi
ned TV and intra-arterial thrombolysis and percutaneous intracranial balloo
n angioplasty.
