Skeletal and cardiac muscle contractile activation: Tropomyosin "rocks androlls"

Changes in thin filament structure induced by Ca2+ binding to troponin and subsequent strong cross-bridge binding regulate additional strong cross-bri dge attachment, force development, and dependence of force on sarcomere len gth in skeletal and cardiac muscle. Variations in activation properties acc ount for functional differences between these muscle types.
