Abstract
Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is demonstrated to measure displacement, which re lies on attaching the FBG on a cantilever structure, so that the Vertical d isplacement of the cantilever's free end can be obtained by measuring the w avelength shift of FBG. A novel technique is then presented to measure disp lacement and temperature simultaneously with a single FBG. The measured dis placement and temperature sensitivities of this cantilever-based FBG sensor are 8.22 x 10(-4) mm(-1) and 8.86 x 10(-5) (degreesC(-1)), respectively. A nd the measurement range can be up to 10.5 mm. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B. V. All rights reserved.
