Abstract
A novel cross-phase-modulation-based scheme to perform optical time-divisio n demultiplexing using a delayed interferometer is put forward and its oper ational principles analysed. Simulations of 40:10 Gb/s demultiplexing show that, through operational parameter optimisation, suppression of the undesi red channels can effectively be achieved. The simplicity and compactness of the device makes it suitable for practical applications. (C) 2001 Publishe d by Elsevier Science B.V.
