Abstract
Two kinds of CVD diamonds (De Beers Company) were investigated with respect to their thermoluminescent (TL) properties, especially concerning their se nsitivity to UV light. Both types of CVD diamond detectors irradiated by io nising radiation are sensitive to UV light (254 nm and 345-400 nm) and to d aylight. The UV light sensitivity of CVD diamond detectors irradiated by io nising radiation disturbs the TL signal, either by diminishing the total TL output, or by introducing additional peaks, in which case the overall TL s ignal increases. To exploit the TL properties of CVD diamonds, it is recomm ended that they be totally shielded from light, i.e. handled in darkness.
