Abstract
The interaction of He-6 with Bi-209 has been studied over a range of energi es well below the nominal Coulomb barrier. A He-4 group of remarkable inten sity, first observed in a previous experiment at near-barrier energies, con tinues to dominate the reaction in the sub-barrier regime. A total cross se ction of nearly 200 mb was measured for this group at 6 MeV below the barri er. This very large value is shown to be consistent with the total reaction cross section deduced from a simultaneously-measured elastic scattering an gular distribution.
