Abstract
The photochemical stability of collagen type I from young albino rat tail t endon in the presence of glutathione (GSH) was investigated using viscosime try, UV-vis spectrophotometry and spectrofluorimetry. The results suggest t hat glutathione makes collagen less resistant to the photolytic action of U V radiation. However, this antioxidant can protect the protein from W photo oxidation and the protection effect depends on its concentration in the pro tein solution. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
