A mathematical tutorial on synthetic aperture radar

Tills paper presents the foundations of conventional strip-mode synthetic a perture radar (SAR) from a mathematical point of view. In particular, the p aper shows how a simple antenna model call be used together with a lineariz ed scattering approximation to predict the received signal. The conventiona l matched-filter processing is explained and analyzed to exhibit the resolu tion of the SAR system.
