Abstract
The peroxotitanium-substituted heteropolytungstate alpha -K-7[GaW11Ti(O-2)O (3)9] . 11H(2)O has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r., u.v., W-183-n.m.r. and by electrochemistry. The W-183-n.m.r. spectrum consists of six lines with intensity ratio 2:2:1:2:2:2, indicating that th e TiO2 occupies the empty octahedral site of the alpha -K-9[GaW11O39] . xH( 2)O anion forming a polyanion with C-s symmetry. The characteristic charge- transfer absorption band O-2(2-) --> Ti at 385 nm occurs in the u.v. spectr um. The polargraphic reduction potential of O-2(2-) at ca. + 0.95 V has bee n determined.
