Jf. Sledzianowski et al., Radio-guided resection of residual metastatic lymph node of a previously resected neuro-endocrine tumor., ANN CHIR, 126(5), 2001, pp. 448-451
Neuroendocrine tumors are slowly growing and carry a high risk of recurrenc
e. Somatostatin receptor scintigraphy is considered as the gold standard fo
r preoperative evaluation and postoperative follow-up. The use of an intrao
perative detection probe makes easier a complete resection of abdominal res
idual or recurrent tumor. These resections may be incomplete because of the
small size of the tumor and the postoperative adhesions. Radio-guided surg
ery is recommended in order to reduce the need for reoperation. (C) 2001 Ed
