The pupose of this stud was to document the association between community f
actors and mental health outcomes in subjects with panic attacks. Randomly
selected adults front 18 census tracts were screened for the presence of pa
nic attacks. A structured interview was used to assess health care utilizat
ion, psychiatric morbidity, quality of life, and sense of control over pani
c, Community measures were obtained from census data. Regression analyses f
ound that each community measure was associated with at least one outcome e
ven when adjusted for individual socioeconomic status and barriers to acces
s. Research concerning mental health outcomes in subjects with panic attack
s shown include community-level data.
