J. Kulhavy et al., A contribution to the knowledge of resilience of forest ecosystems at higher altitudes of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, EKOL BRATIS, 20, 2001, pp. 15-35
On the example of a spruce monoculture established by artificial regenerati
on in the Bily Kriz locality in the Moravian-Silcsian Beskids (The Czech Re
public) at an altitude of 908 m, available parameters were analysed of the
clement balance and ecological stability of the ecosystem was evaluated. Re
sults of the study show that the forest ecosystems are in a stationary slat
e distant from the equilibrium one and their resistance against changes in
the abiotic environment (resilience) is low. Critical parameters are as fol
lows: unsuitable species and spatial structure of stands, high input of aci
ds in precipitation, unbalanced clement budget, nat root system and lack of
nitrogen and magnesium in mineral nutrition. In case of the occurrence of
unsuitable climatic events there is a high probability of forest stand dama
ge in the future.
