Abstract
Six lanthanide metal complexes with N,N-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)glycine (Hbheg) have been prepared and characterized by means of IR spectra, magnetic susce ptibility, thermal analysis, and powder X-ray analysis. These complexes app ear as two types: [M(bheg)(2)]Cl . 3H(2)O and M(bheg)(2)(CH2COO)(H2O)(4) (M : La, Ce, Nd). The crystal and molecular structure of [La(bheg)(2)]Cl . 3H( 2)O was determined by a single-crystal X-ray diffraction method. The centra l lanthanum atom is nine-coordinated with a face-centered trigonal prism ge ometry. The structure of this complex consists of a one-dimensional polymer bridged by carboxylato oxygen atoms.
